Every suburb has a story…

Join us on this immersive walking tour through South Brisbane Cemetery – the resting ground of Dutton Park’s past  as we explore the lives of those who built, served, and transformed this vibrant corner of Brisbane.  From bakers and bureaucrats to prison inmates and students, their legacies still echo through the headstones  these are stories of the ordinary made extraordinary.

Among the tales we’ll unearth:

🏫 The schoolyard nestled within a stone’s throw of headstones and high walls, and the kids who called it normal
📜 A quietly clever clerk who pocketed land and gave birth to an entire estate
🔗 Boggo Road Gaol, with no graves of its own — and the silent bond it shares with South Brisbane Cemetery
🧏 Queensland’s School for the Deaf that taught generations in the heart of the neighbourhood
🍰 A baker with big dreams and hot ovens — and the sweet legacy that became the Shingle Inn

This tour reveals the heart of a suburb built on quiet resilience, whispered memories, and the lives of those who might otherwise have been lost to time.

Because around here, even the quietest streets have stories worth hearing.

All of our tours are not-for-profit, with all money raised going to our cemetery history and maintenance projects.
