Step through the gates and into the past, where every grave echoes the story of a city in motion.

South Brisbane Cemetery: A Journey Through Time invites you on a reflective walk through more than 150 years of Brisbane’s evolving identity – told through the lives, legacies, and headstones of those who helped shape it.  From its quiet founding in the 1870s to its role today as a site of remembrance and reflection, this historic cemetery has stood witness to Queensland’s transformation through floods, epidemics, prisons, protest, and quiet acts of progress.

This tour traces the foundations of industry, immigration, innovation, and civic spirit via the silent stories etched into stone by people who built more than homes: they built heritage.

Among the lives we uncover:

🌾 The man who first produced raw sugar from Queensland cane
🥩 A Cemetery Trustee and pioneer of meat preservation
🐠 An outback settler who brought sea creatures to the city
🏡 A Wolston House family whose name still echoes in local heritage
👞 The bootmaker who helped found Brisbane’s first German Club

Whether you’re drawn to the early mechanics of colonial industry, intrigued by the quiet visionaries of Brisbane’s past, or simply seeking a deeper connection with the city’s roots, South Brisbane Cemetery: A Journey Through Time offers a contemplative journey through memory, place, and time.

Because the past doesn’t just rest here – it endures, grows, and walks with us still.

All of our tours are not-for-profit, with all money raised going to our cemetery history and maintenance projects.
