Come spend a day where history and memory meet — at our Descendants’ Picnic in the Cemetery, a relaxed community gathering especially for descendants and families connected to South Brisbane Cemetery.

Running from 10:00am to 2:00pm, this free event invites you to roll out your picnic blanket, bring a chair, and enjoy a peaceful day beneath the shade of the cemetery’s historic trees — surrounded by stories, memories, and a shared connection to one of Brisbane’s oldest burial grounds.

Whether you’re honouring family, tracing your roots, or simply interested in the people who shaped this corner of the city, the day includes a free public talk on using cemeteries for historical and genealogical research, perfect for beginners and seasoned genealogists and researchers alike.

You’ll also find a family history help stall, where friendly FOSBC volunteers will be on hand to chat about cemetery records, research techniques, and local history.  If your ancestors are buried in South Brisbane Cemetery, we’ll do our best to help you uncover something new.

Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day, and we warmly encourage you to bring a picnic lunch, relax, and connect with others who share ties to this special place.

Whether you come to remember, to learn, or simply to enjoy the atmosphere — the Descendants’ Picnic in the Cemetery is a heartfelt invitation to rediscover the stories that still live among the stones.
